Residence COVID-19 Information: International Students FAQ

There are important travel regulations that require you to plan ahead prior to your arrival, including arranging for a 14-day quarantine upon your arrival to Canada.

International students are subject to specific requirements, including having a plan to quarantine for 14 days upon arrival to Canada, if necessary.

To quarantine in Seneca Residence, you must be enrolled full-time at Seneca and have applied to live in residence for the academic term.

Apply online to live in Residence.

Yes, if you have applied and have been accepted in Residence for the fall 2021 term, you can quarantine before the start of your residence term. The residence Fall term begins Sunday, Sept. 5, 2021.

Seneca also requires that all the important information about your travel and quarantine plans be provided using the Seneca International Arrivals (iCent) app. This information allows us to support you and share information before your travel, when you arrive at the Canadian border and during your quarantine period.

The Canadian government also requires you to provide information about your travel and quarantine plans. It is now mandatory for all international students to submit this information to the government using the secure ArriveCAN app. If you do not have a smartphone, you can sign in to ArriveCAN online.

Step one: You must apply and be accepted to Residence for the Fall 2021 term before booking your quarantine stay in Residence. Apply online to live in Residence.

You will receive a confirmation email once your stay has been approved with payment details, along with what to bring and other important information.

If your quarantine period begins prior to the Residence fall term (Sept. 5, 2021), you will be required to pay Early Move in Fees of $30 per day, plus $240 for a residence quarantine kit to get you started.
NOTE: Students are responsible for their own meals; we will provide information on grocery and take-out options.

What is included for your quarantine?

  • PrivateAccommodations in a Residence suite, which includes a double bed, desk, dresser
  • A kitchenette equipped with a full-sized refrigerator, microwave
  • Three-piece washroom
  • Television and wireless internet
  • Residence Quarantine Kit:
    • Kitchen Essentials (plates, bowl, cups, set of knives, fork, spoons, can opener, dish sponge, paper towel and dish soap)
    • Bathroom Essentials(bath and hand towels, two facecloths, garbage bags, hand soap, toilet paper, shampoo, shower curtain and box of tissues)
    • Bedroom Essentials (two bed sheets, one pillowcase, one pillow and one blanket)
    • COVID-19 Essentials(Seneca Residence face mask and hand sanitizer)

Upon arrival, visit the front desk, where you will be checked in to your quarantine suite and provided additional information and resources.

You must submit your quarantine plan on the Seneca International Arrivals (iCent) app in the Start Here – Mandatory Forms section.

You cannot leave your quarantine suite until your quarantine period is over (this includes not going to classes or going to get food).

Residence Life staff will call you periodically to see how your quarantine is going and answer questions. Also:

  • If required, complete the day-8 COVID-19 test kit and submit as instructed (For more information about the day-8 COVID-19 test kit, visit the Government of Canada website
  • After submitting the day-8 COVID-19 test kit, you must remain in quarantine until you get a negative test result and continue to check in daily until day-14, unless Public Health advises otherwise
  • Once you receive your COVID-19 test results, you must share your test result with Seneca on the Seneca International Arrivals (iCent) app
  • After you share your negative test result and have completed the 14-day quarantine, you can exit your quarantine
  • If your test result is positive, you must also share this result and obtain instructions from Public Health; then, submit your post-quarantine attestation on theSeneca International Arrivals (iCent) app after receiving your results of your day-14 COVID-19 test.

NOTE: After the completion of your quarantine, you will move to your new permanent suite for the remainder of the term.

  • Please see Seneca’s on-campus vaccination conditionsfor fall 2021 that will include students living in Seneca’s two residences and employees who work there.
  • Residence is not permitting guests and is a smoke-free building
  • You should have access to Canadian funds (e.g. a Canadian bank card, credit card or gift card) for your food purchases during quarantine
  • Arrange for all necessities to be delivered to your place of quarantine (e.g. food, medication, cleaning supplies, etc.), as you will not be able to leave your residence to go shopping or run errands.
